Main Tourist Attractions in Panama

Panama is a world renowned tourist destination due to it's dazzling tropical climate, fantastic mountain and island paradises, and it's wonderful history as a cross-roads for global commerce. You can be immersed in the richness of the Spanish colonial or pre-Hispanic history of Panama and the canal, the wilderness of the jungle or in the fantastic settings along the Panama Canal. You can hike in mountain landscapes, or dive into the blue waters of the Caribbean or the Pacific.

Among the most well-known destinations of course, Panama City and the Canal Zone offer a terrific array of things to see and do. Cruises and mini-cruises on the canal can fill a day with a fascinating array of sight-seeing adventures. A stop at Monkey Island will let you meet, at a minimum, 4 types of monkeys who will remind you that Panama is one of the world's top eco-tourism destinations. Birdwatching at the Smithsonian's Institute for Tropical Research and jungle exploration make anyone a nature lover.

The beaches and islands that make up a huge part of the Panamian lifestyle are not to be sneezed at either. White sand powders beaches right outside Panama City and the islands dot both coasts with tropical havens too numerous to take visit in just a short visit. The Gulf of Panama is home to the famous 103 Pearl Islands where diving and snorkeling are just the beginning of the fun.

Several new golf courses are under construction but even, golfers will not be disappointed. Coronado, Summit and Costa Blanca are among the finest courses in this hemisphere. Of course, sportfishing and kayaking and just about any ocean sport under the sun are among the other big attractions and these too are available on both coasts.
